Early diagnosis is key in order to provide the support and the right treatment to the individual affected . However, since there is no single specific test , it is required to contact a well trained and experienced professional in order to do a comprehensive evaluation to make sure other causes and possible co-existing conditions are discarded.
Assessments often include medical and psychological evaluation . A full case history will be run to analyze, review and evaluate when the symptoms arise , how long persisted and what is the impact . Usually the diagnostic methods used by professionals are rating scales specifically created and designed to assess ADHD symptoms.
For example if a child experiences some difficulty during his learning process , family and teacher and other medical professionals may be involved to review if there is any other coexisting intrinsic condition affecting this outcome , how is the child's relationship with his peers or even if he is affected by any visual problem.
